Consistency in Inconsistency

I have always been a homebody. When I got to college, that became very apparent. I would always wonder why everyone had such an easy time adjusting, while I would be internally suffering and counting down the minutes until I was finally able to be home with my family and friends. Soon enough, I came to the realization that a lot of why it was so hard adjusting to college was because of the incredible home life I had.
I have lived in the town of Sea Cliff, NY since I was only a year old. Although this town is only one square mile, it holds many of my favorite people and favorite memories. From waving hello to my neighbors, to having dinner with my family every night, to driving around with my friends enjoying the scenery of our neighborhood, I never get sick of this town. In November 2015, we sold our childhood house in hopes of building the house of our dreams. The process was long and exhausting, and it took years for our final house to finally be built. While many things had changed through the years, the love and intimacy that my family shared would always stay the same.
In these images, I decided to layer old pictures I had of my family and family friends over new images I took of current places around my town. The people in these old pictures are some of the most amazing people in my life, and while things may change, these memories will last
forever. I wanted the old images and new images to interact in a way that truly shows the bond that we share, even when things and places may have changed drastically.
Change has always been hard for me, but the memories and bond that my family and I share will always be a constant in my life. A song that had always stuck with me from my childhood is “Vivir Mi Vida” by Marc Anthony. This song is in Spanish and it translates to “Live my Life”. This song is all about living the best life you can and looking past the negatives, and that we only live once so we should live our lives to the fullest. I feel that this song resonated with my project because the people surrounding me at home have always brought me pure joy and have been my rock through it all, or as I like to call it- Consistency in Inconsistency.
